Dear Mom & Dad:

We watched the World Cup soccer final in Mexico. First, in a Tijuana restaurant called Caves. There was a xylophone player at the door. We caught the end in Jatay, a bar/restaurant in Puerto Nuevo. Italy won, then we finished our deep-fried Pacific lobsters and fresh tortillas. Capping the day, we swam at the Rosarito Beach Hotel.

I’m not a fan of driving in Mexico. We became turistas and took a bus tour. Five Star Tours leaves San Diego’s Old Town at 10 a.m. on Sundays. It makes those three stops and gets back by 6 p.m. The bus is big and comfy——yes, Dad, there’s a bathroom.

The 17 people on our bus were mostly tourists. But it’s a cool deal for San Diego locals. We ran into friends at El Patio de la Langosta in Puerto Nuevo (home of the $1 Margarita). The trip is $69; $35 for kids. I’m recommending it to everybody. Well . . . don’t tell Uncle Lester.
