A Little Break

Wedding planning has slowed down just a little bit. Which is crazy to me since we'll only have a 9-month engagement as opposed to the usual one-year. I expected to be running around like a chicken with my head cut off until September 27th. But lucky for me I have most of the main stuff all wrapped up and now I can sit back, relax and wait...

If I can give any advice to fellow brides to be, it would be: LET PEOPLE HELP YOU! Don't take it all on by yourself. That's just ridiculous. Whether you hire an event coordinator, wedding planner, friends or family, ask for help.

I'm lucky enough to have a Mom and future Mother In Law who are equally helpful and most importantly, creative! Not having to worry about invitations, flowers or my cake has been a dream.

It also helps to be a little laid back. This should be a fun and exciting time in your life and it's really not worth it to stress out. Besides, you're the bride - let people take care of you. I guarantee you'll find more than enough people who are willing to give you a hand. And it will make the day that much more special knowing that your loved ones truly are a part of your wedding.

So while taking a break from the planning we helped Rich's sister Deb move to San Diego all the way from Manhattan. Big change, huh? His parents flew down from Northern California and we had a nice family weekend. We all went shopping with Deb to help her find furniture which was quite exciting given that her new place is about 3 times the size of her old apartment in Manhattan. She's going to be swimming in extra space; she won't know what to do with herself.

We took a little trip up to Rancho Valencia on Friday to have a drink and show our wedding venue off to Rich's parents. They approved. And seeing it again with the flowers in bloom and all the lush greenery just solidified my love for it. We also managed to rock a little Guitar Hero (Rich is definitely the champ, but I'm a close second) and spend a little time in Old Town, one of my favorite places in all of San Diego.

It was a great weekend and I can't tell you how glad I am to have Deb here. I'm going to drag her all over the place checking out wedding stuff while she drags me to all the home decor shops. Maybe there won't be much relaxing after all....

Enjoy the downtime. I remember feeling like I should be doing something but its just that time in the engagement that you get to enjoy each other alone before all the mayhem begins.

So smart to get help when you can! It takes any added decision making stress off you and allows you to enjoy the wedding planning process! I am so glad to hear everything is coming along smoothly. Enjoy this time because I am sure there will be plenty of final decisions to make come the month prior to the wedding, but of course nothing to stress over! - Fitz
